sadly the future for male calves is a complete unknown. It is too time consuming and expensive to bring them up as there is no useful purpose in their being, except for cow dung.Inevitably, a middle man comes along making an offer you cannot refuse and promises that the animal will not end up on a table, just so that he can salve the conscience of the seller, but take it straight to the butcher at whatever age.
it would be interesting to get a picture of the middle man to see what this kind of heartless person looks like.
do the middle men have any particular characteristics?

these calves are so cute! I notice that you've got a great love for your 2 dogs, but will be willing to send these 2 cuties to the butcher for a few bucks. I doubt you would sell your beloved dogs for such a purpose.
Can you explain to your readers on what basis you are able to distinguish between the 2 species? what do your dogs provide you that the calves cannot?
I will have to go through the arguments in a whole blog entry as it is a very sensitive topic with opposing view points. All I would say for the moment is that we dont consume our pets, but do if they are not.
The father of the two calves was the first born when I came to live on the farm, and I took it in my pick up to Polonnaruwa when it was a calf. That was for sentimental reasons. However I have had a time of it taking care of it, but have so far allowed him his space, even though fodder is hard to come by. He is only good for impregnating, but his record of only giving male offspring means the village does not want him to sire any more from the local heiffers!! What do I do with him?
They are big, they head butt with their horns and break away from their moorings when they spot a female in heat. Left untethered they can destroy not just mine but neighboring crops.
